Collaborative Sculpture Painting installation of molded leather bags
‘Bag Snatcher’ is a culturally collaborative installation of 5 molded leather bags, life size representations of a baby, child, mother and father, each depicting painted stories of the stolen generation. The work toys with the symbolism of ‘baggage’; hiding the contents, the person within, so that all tangible individualism and personality is obscured and ultimately lost. This work comments on the objectification of an entire race of people, to be passed around, moved on, overlooked, and ultimately stolen. The use of leather as a medium has a direct connection to notions of skin or ‘surface’.
This work has been funded under the Regional Arts Fund Project Grant Scheme in Victoria.
